Study Abroad
Students returning from a study or internship abroad experience often say that it is the 'defining moment' in their education, one that has changed their life. Their perspectives become global, their attitudes international and their tastes cosmopolitan. Students often say that prospective employers comment on such experience when they see it in a résumé -- and this may give an edge in a job application!
Students are often under the impression that they cannot afford to study or do an internship abroad, financially or time-wise, or that it is too complicated to bring credits back from their experience abroad. On the contrary, in the vast majority of cases, financial aid is available and applicable to the study abroad costs; furthermore, scholarships exist in particular for study abroad students. With good planning, a student can complete all major and university requirements and still take a semester or two in a foreign country. Internship credits may also be assigned to work abroad, depending on the field of study. And we, in the Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures, work with students regularly to find the way for them to go abroad and to get credit for the maximum number of credits possible upon their return.
Programs exist for all interests, budgets, and time frames, from foreign exchanges to study abroad to faculty-led programs to academic internships. The WSU Education Abroad Web site can provide you with information on opportunities -- please visit them at http://www.ip.wsu.edu/education_abroad/
