Internships

An internship is a self-initiated, supervised work experience with appropriate private organizations, businesses, or government agencies that increases interaction with professionals in the student's field of interest. An internship provides a learning environment where students apply knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom setting and prepares students to enter professional positions. Proficiency in a foreign language is the natural complement to the internships that are available for credit at WSU Vancouver, especially those in Business, Social Services, Criminal Justice and Health Care (see the individual department for specific information about internships available). Examples of internship sites include:

  • Washington State Legislature in Olympia, Washington
  • YWCA of Clark County
  • CASA (Court Appointed Special Assistant)
  • Building Industry Association of Clark County
  • Children and Family Services Division
  • Clark County Commissioners Office
  • Department of Corrections
  • Clark County Juvenile Court Services
  • U.S. Probation Office
  • Multnomah County Department of Community Justice
  • Children's Home Society of Washington

The Department of Foreign Languages and Cultures encourages students to seek and participate in internships where language skills are combined with professional skills in real-life, career-type experiences. For more information, please contact
